Many businesses are completly data-driven. Data (and derivatives, analyses, trends, and inferences) have great value. In the early 2000s I was working on ground-breaking healthcare data analytics. We rounded up 500 million outcome records from Blue Shield, Humana, United Health, Cigna and others. For a fee we reported this information back to the insurers. The data clearly showed what treatments worked for which diagnoses. This saved the fledging health insurer I was consulting to....and turned into a new business line. The investment they made in my time and a SQL server produced considerable revenue with the trickle-down benefit to America of better guidance to doctors of successful treatment protocols.
