I am going to approach this from the lens of a software engineer. Currently I don't do this, but if I did care about version controlling my resume here's how I would do it. I wouldn't come up with any naming conventions. I would have a single resume file, but I would version control it using a tool called Git that is common for software engineers. The master/main branch I would use for the most generic version of my resume, then I would create feature branches for each main type of job that I would want to apply for. For instance I'd have a branch for Data Science roles and another for full stack roles. This way I can just check out the branch I need for the kind of job I'm applying for then maybe just tweak the name of the company.
