You're interviewing for a customer support role. How do you prepare for the most common questions?

The first thing I will do is to research about the company and the product I will be supporting, find out their mission, vision, core values and so on. I will practice and create scenarios of some commonly asked questions.

VNA and other assessment requires good listening and speaking skills so have to be a good listener and always prepare yourself before going for an interview.

Review previous situations you have been in and worked through. Share how you worked to find an answer or resolved a conflict or not so easy issue. Be honest about your strengths, as well as any weaknesses and how you can grow and strengthen them

When getting ready for a job interview in customer support, I think it's super important to be well-prepared. It's like building a strong foundation for yourself and showing that you're a good fit for the team.

An interviewer once asked me: "You are in a room. How will you get out?" I did not have a straighforward answer. Instead, I asked a multitude of questions: Is there a door? A window? A ceiling? Is there any item around? What are the walls made of? Are the walls made of plywood I can knock down? Is someone out there to help me out? It is apparently a test on how I would be handling the common customer issue of "My product doesn't work". This is how vague customers can be when relaying their troubles. Practicing how you will pull out the real issue from customers using active listening and emphatic questioning is a good start. It is another thing to practice how to properly convey the resolution back to them.

In my experience, prepping for customer support interviews is like getting ready for a tennis match. It's about finding that balance between professionalism and a relaxed, confident approach, just like on the court... I mean, in the interview room.

These scenarios enable the applicant demonstrate practically how he handles customer interactions on the job. It’s essential to answer these scenarios in relation to previous interactions with customers in previous working environments. For applicants at complete entry level, fall on the resources around you; the internet, friends or colleagues with experience in the field.

From previous experience, I would also mention the importance of taking along documents to prove the steps. Talk about the experience that made you realise you had to develop that particular skill(s). For example, I am working on my social media skills to enable me create engaging posts. Slip in the fact that you can contribute to company newsletters. Another example is this, I am working on my listening skills because a customer ordered a specific product over the phone but I ordered the wrong one because English is not my first language. I should have double checked the name of the product. This would have prevented the receipt of the wrong product and the chaos that ensued. Be honest, it is part of your personal brand and credibility.

In my experience, handling strengths and weaknesses in customer support interviews is like navigating a maze: authenticity is key. I've showcased patience as a soothing balm in heated exchanges and used feedback as a turbo boost to overcome slower response times. It's about genuine moments coupled with a drive for improvement.

Being very aware of your strengths and limitations is a bug advantage in interviewing for customer support. Knowing how to emphasise you strengths and how to showcase how you are working on your limitations (and how you handle them when its necessary) is a brilliant way to navigate your interview.

to better prepare for this question i try to have my strengths written down along with my weaknesses and what i am doing to improve my weaknesses to better develop those skills

En mi experiencia, cuando tengo una entrevista recalco el conocimiento que tengo del producto (características, beneficios, tiempo de respuesta, condiciones generales de crédito) para que la persona que se encuentra del otro lado, tenga claro el dominio que tengo en el ramo. Es importante conocer las generalidades de la empresa donde te están entrevistando para demostrar dominio del mercado y que tengan noción de que cuentas con cartera de clientes que puede funcionar para ellos.

I try to write down some questons as i research the company before my interview so it shows the interviewer how interested i am in the company and postion i am applying for.

It's like saying, "Hey, I really appreciated our talk, and here's why I think I'm a great fit." Keeping it friendly yet pro shows you're genuine and serious about the role.

Become the customer half into the interview and then switch to become the company the next half. It's the perfect combination.

When having an interview, don't forget to ask about internal KPIs and how they are measured. Also, asking about their software for the support team could be a good idea.

I think it is important to stay relaxed and let your personality shine. Managers need to see that you can easily interact even in a high stress situation

If i havent heard anything in a few days i try to contact the company and let them know i am still very much interested in the job i interviewed for and see what info they can tell me regaurding the hiring process.
