It's better to take time on understanding organization need by conducting survey, Employee feedback and leadership expectation. Afterwards decide the KRA based on balance score card, these goal are realistic and time bond with customer perspectives

Specific: it shall be well defined and clear. e.g I should reduce turnover by 3% at the end of the year. ?? Measurable: Goals should have criteria for tracking progress. The above 3% is a criteria. ?? Achievable: It shall be attainable and realistic. If we want to reduce turnover, we should see our resources and capacities that can make either it is possible or not. ?? Relevant: Goals should align with your overall objectives and be meaningful to you. ?? Time-bound: Goals should have a deadline or timeframe for completion. Adding a time constraint helps create urgency and motivation.

Your HR Operations goals might feel overwhelming or confusing when you first look at them. But don't worry, you can make them simpler by breaking them into smaller tasks. Each task should have a clear goal, someone in charge of it, and a deadline. For example, if your goal is to improve employee communication, you could start by setting up a monthly newsletter, organizing team meetings, creating an online forum for discussions, and then tracking feedback to see how well it's working.

Whenever I teach strategy, I always explain that you want to start with the end in mind and work backwards. Set your goals and then determine what steps you need to take or what tasks need to be done to achieve those goals. Establish an order, what tools and resources are needed, and when each task needs to be accomplished. Then work toward gathering everything you need. The smaller steps are less intimidating and should get you to your goal.

Instead of setting one big, overwhelming goal, break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks to help you stay on track and make progress more quickly.

Your goals should have to do with some type of endgame. Are you overall trying to increase the positivity of your company culture? Or trying to grow your workforce? Or trying to offer better training to employees? Having an overarching goal that’s more broad can help your SMART goals serve as arrows toward a bigger ending. That way, you won’t get distracted by small projects or side ideas.

It may be slightly controversial but I love putting my objectives into ChatGPT and asking the AI to break them down into manageable chunks, or to offer suggestions about tackling them. Even if I don’t find the answers helpful, I am often inspired by the response and end up going down a really interesting path. My abilities and scope has certainly increased since utilising AI as a support tool.

Prioritize, then prioritize again. Strong operators need to define 1-2 large projects a year, 1-2 mid sized projects a quarter, and defend those choices against every other project or ask. Anything more than 1-2 a year and a quarter may result in the law of diminishing returns, or no movement on the key projects. More often than not, your large and mid-sized projects will address root cause problems and so other asks will align. Anything smaller than a quarterly project is likely fungible and will need to be prioritized and re prioritized.

Establish realistic timelines for each goal and its associated tasks. Consider the complexity of the goal, available resources, and any external dependencies that may affect the timeline.
