Trouble you say? Right here in River City? Trouble with a capital T? Well, when having trouble with your storyboard, the first thing to consider is your bowel health. This in turn, strikes repeatedly on the creativity nerves, causing fatigue in a surprisingly short amount of time. This disconnection causes vascular issues in the 3rd finger on the drawing hand, spasms are common, often leaving the middle finger straight, whilst simultaneously contracting closed the rest of the hand. If not treated regularly, you get an uncontrollable urge to wave at data aggregators.
There are lots of tactics to make that storyboard really sing and NONE of them include decades of practice. There are three techniques i like to employ when my boards just aren’t quite there yet. Firstly, I like to make a sacrifice to the animation gods, which usually consists of dropping one page of animation paper onto a bonfire. MUST be 20# paper and preferred brand is chromacolour. Secondly, twinkies. And thirdly, call a friend who is REALLY good at storyboarding and ask them a question. That’s about it. Now, go storyboard and make animation magic!!
When I started in storyboarding we only worked pencil on paper ; that involved a lot of retracing and exacto knife cutting and pasting. The worst part of that process was that I had no way of being able to evaluate my presumed timing . It is absolutely essential to have some sort of ability to work with digital tools if you have access to them. Most importantly you will need a drawing software that includes an audio track and the ability to edit / set timing for each drawn panel . Toonboom SB PRO is an industry standard and incredibly easy to learn how to use . There are many other programs available but for my money SB Pro is purpose built and works great .
This is such a big questions, books have been written on it. And it takes year- decades to get good at this. People learn and improve their whole careers. Take classes, talk to artists, practice, draw everyday, study film. You can’t type words into a computer program and have it tell your story- it may tell a story, but it won’t be yours. And if yours okay with that, then we’re just dumping garbage into the world instead of sharing the human condition. Not as interested to watch what a computer thinks will touch me. I’m sure it will make something interesting someday, but can’t be at the expense of our voices.

First be sure you fully understand how the animation method allows for your storyboarding presentation. Harmony is more of a "flat-style" pipeline whereas full 3D animation allows for more extreme angles. Don't draw what the animation cannot do later ( especially if the flat style character designs cannot do certain types of extreme poses ) That's the technical consideration . To do great storyboards however it's really wonderful to have great voice recordings to start with. Timing is incredibly important and having an assembled audio "radio play" that is already working well is a great way to focus your shot choices. It's all about getting the essential information across in a way that is fresh and entertaining .
