Also be aware that "tech for the sake of tech" isn't the way to go. During the blockchain craze, every new hot start-up tried just to decentralize something -- the typical "here is a solution, let's look for a problem" fallacy. There is this tendency in FinTech as well. Continuously challenging your team on the end-user impact and pushing for "just one more customer interview" is usually not a bad strategy!

Understanding the customers need and capabilities is key and those can be two very different things. People in fintech are usually not typical customers. We don’t always get the painpoints right. But even if we do, we quite often overestimate what the client is ready to do on order to eliminate that pain. This understanding only comes one way: By talking to the customers and testing.

To become indispensable in a financial technology team, master your role, collaborate actively, stay updated on industry trends, solve problems proactively, communicate effectively, remain adaptable, take initiative, maintain high standards of quality and accuracy, support teammates, and conduct yourself with professionalism and integrity.

In the realm of financial technology (fintech), C++ emerges as a cornerstone for development. Its speed, reliability, and compatibility make it indispensable. Specialization is also very relevant. Depending on the function of the team, having "another generalist" might not be helpful (and you're also more easily replaceable). If you're the go-to person for a certain crucial topic within your team, you are truly indispensable. Observe your team, think about bottle necks or topics your team consistently needs to get help from the outside. If you can specialize on this one thing, you're truly valuable. That being said, being "truly indispensable" is also not a good sign -- everyone is and should be replaceable so the company / team doesn't fall into despair if someone leaves.

Collaborate effectively: Work well with others by actively listening, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a positive and collaborative team environment. Effective collaboration is key to achieving team goals and building strong relationships with your colleagues.

What's make-or-break here is being able to explain very technical concepts to non-technical people -- sort of a "translator" role. There are very few people who truly live in both worlds (even though many believe they do) and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively. Typically hands-on experience in both is almost always a must to be able to "translate" effectively.

Foster open communication and collaboration within the team. Be proactive in sharing your knowledge and expertise with others, and be willing to learn from your colleagues. Building strong relationships with team members will enhance teamwork and productivity.

The magic ingredient? Clear, concise communication. It’s about sharing updates, ironing out issues, and brainstorming solutions transparently. But equally, it’s about listening – really listening – to foster an environment where all voices are valued, and collaboration thrives.

Communicate clearly and openly: Maintain open and transparent communication with team members, sharing relevant information, updates, and feedback in a clear and timely manner. Good communication skills help prevent misunderstandings and ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Data is important! Try to get data from various resources about new trends, future possibilities and also best practice of applying the new technology into financial structure. You first should know the current then innovate the new. You should find the problem then improve. More cognition you achieve more ways of innovations you find. Use visualization to summerize what you know and what you don't , then darw a path to improve yourself and your team. Try to find what is the real need then innovate best solution for that and improve by checking and feedback then innovate more to progress...

Stay curious and committed to lifelong learning. Invest time in expanding your knowledge and skills through courses, workshops, and self-study. Keep up with industry publications, research papers, and online resources to stay ahead of the curve.

Why settle for the status quo when we can enhance it? I constantly challenge existing processes and advocate for innovation, aligning new methods with our team’s dynamics and learning curves. It’s about being proactive, not just reactive.

Show initiative and creativity: Take the initiative to propose innovative ideas, solutions, or process improvements that can drive efficiency, productivity, or innovation within the team. Creative thinking and problem-solving skills can set you apart as a valuable team player.

One needs to understand that all the above are good to be a good team player. Having said that, no one is indispensable and shouldn’t be. Keep learning, share your skills, be transparent, understand and listen to others in the team. Help them all evolve so that you are all a team. Equally important and responsible. If you are indispensable to a team or project, you are also lowering your chances of growing and getting elevated.

Adapt to change: Embrace change and be flexible in your approach to new challenges, projects, or technologies. Adaptability is crucial in the fast-paced and evolving field of financial technology, and team members who can navigate change effectively are highly valued.

Read up on up and coming technologies as well as regulations in order to have a proactive approach to readiness and planning for future program increments. If you are building products which may become regulated, consider ahead of time what technical considerations may need to be made for these.
