1 Define the problem

How does it relate to your role, your team, your organization, and your industry? How urgent and important is it? What are the criteria and constraints you have to consider? Review the proposed decision and action in a wider context. We live in a complex world where solutions to technical problems can have economic impacts and solutions to personnel problems can have legal implications. Understand the implications of a decision and action plan - understand the context, the stakeholders, the beneficiaries, etc. Always strive to find that bigger picture view. Once you believe you have this greater understanding, adjust your decision and action plan accordingly.
