Be yourself, you were hired for many reasons and your input is important especially with your manager. Remember that most likely you are on the same team trying to accomplish a goal together. Go into the meeting knowing that something needs to be understood or cleared up and together you and your manager can determine what needs to happen to help everyone involved.

We should all be able to communicate directly and succinctly. Less is more. Stay on topic. That being said, depending on your boss, some individuals are not as open as they profess to employees who are direct (and professional) in communicating concerns. I’ve always been direct and honest in expressing my opinions. Sometimes, it’s not as welcomed as you’d like to believe. Often (and sadly ), honesty is not truly appreciated. Know who you’re dealing with and proceed in a circumspect manner. There are often unknown factors, alliances, etc. that are in play. Watch body language.
