To convince a client to prioritize quality over speed on a tight project timeline, I emphasize the long-term benefits of a well-executed design, including durability, functionality, and aesthetic value. I explain the risks associated with rushing, such as increased chances of errors, higher future maintenance costs, and potential compromises to the design’s integrity. By outlining a strategic plan that optimizes efficiency without sacrificing quality, and perhaps breaking down deliverables into achievable phases, I reassure the client that prioritizing quality will ultimately lead to a more successful and satisfying outcome.

Depends on the kind of project we are facing. I.e. retail has totally different priorities than residential. Good projects in general ease good production, good production ease timing and snag lists. Sometimes you need to balance the benefits of an earlier opening over affordable snag lists.

While tight project timelines are challenging, prioritizing design excellence ensures a durable, high-quality outcome. Here’s how I’d approach this with a client: 1. Long-Term Value: A well-considered design boosts asset value, enhances performance, and reduces lifecycle costs through sustainable solutions. 2. Architectural Detailing: Focusing on precise detailing minimizes construction errors and ensures a seamless building envelope. 3. Quality Materials: Investing in premium materials improves durability and aesthetics, offering long-term value through reduced maintenance. 4. Transparent Communication: Regular updates keep the client informed, building trust and addressing challenges proactively.

One tactic that has always helped me is to establish clarity and confidence in the overall quality of design and execution than to deliver under the time constraints. Not only does it help in the long term wellness of the project, but also helps in building and maintaining brand impression. This approach helped me in maintaining quality and connections with brands and establish control over the project.
