You're facing team setbacks. How can you build resilience and guide your team to success?

In my experience setbacks can make a team. Learning from mistakes and ensuring that lessons are learned are important building blocks for any team. However, it is essential that there is no blame culture which can be very destructive for both the individual and the team. Put in place realistic goals and time lines - I have always used the approach ‘’A team is only as strong as its weakest link….’’

Le responsable doit apporter des solutions à travers ses hypothèses . A cet effet , le manager doit ma?triser le processus d’élaboration cad la cha?ne aboutissant à l’objectif énoncé par les dirigeants. Il se doit de suppléer toute lacune immédiatement, résoudre les soucis et après faire le diagnostic du maillon faible. Montrer sa valeur technique qui est la base , ensuite celle du management.

I start by analyzing setbacks, viewing them as learning opportunities. This approach shifts the team’s focus from frustration to growth, making it easier to bounce back.

Analyze the Causes: Take time to thoroughly understand the reasons behind the setbacks. Identify whether they stem from external factors, internal processes, or team dynamics. Learn from Mistakes: Encourage the team to view setbacks as learning opportunities. Discuss what went wrong, what could have been done differently, and how to avoid similar issues in the future. Acknowledge Emotions: Recognize and validate the feelings of frustration or disappointment within the team. Understanding and addressing these emotions is crucial for moving forward constructively.

Transparent communication is key. I encourage my team to share their thoughts and concerns openly, which fosters trust and collaboration, even during tough times.

Open communication is the basis for building trust which ensures the effective collaboration and cooperation among the team. Clear precise communication promotes camaraderie among team which ensures absolute support to one another. The bonding and chemistry between the team is crucial for success of the team and their alignment towards achieving common goals

Transparent Discussions: Hold open and honest conversations about the setbacks. Ensure that all team members are aware of the situation and feel comfortable expressing their concerns and ideas for recovery. Provide Reassurance: Offer reassurance by outlining a clear plan for overcoming the setbacks. Open communication helps to alleviate uncertainty and fosters a sense of collective purpose. Invite Input: Encourage team members to contribute their ideas on how to get back on track. Collaborative problem-solving not only generates more solutions but also strengthens team cohesion.

Transparency is the language of collaboration, it requires you to be honest about flaws in the approach, be pragmatic about it, focus more on what needs to be done and then review if necessary. Encourage teams and individuals to hold their hands up early, as later is not the best option, stakeholders do not like surprises, but they also know and have experienced poor communication and they will spot procrastination and obfuscation quickly. What went well, what went wrong and what we are doing about it will help you to frame the actions being taken.

Communicate both trust and belief, conveying your trust provides confidence and sharing why you believe in them will help them see the evidence. Counsel them with examples of how they overcame challenges and obstacle, remind them that we are all human, if you get it wrong, you will get it right next time. Support and Resources: Provide the necessary support and resources to help the team overcome obstacles. Whether it’s additional training, tools, or time, ensuring they have what they need is vital to building resilience. Celebrate Small Wins: As the team makes progress, celebrate small victories along the way. Recognizing these achievements helps maintain momentum and reinforces the belief that setbacks are temporary and surmountable.

Empowerment follows by delegation is very important for building resilient team. Empowerment helps to build self confidence and self esteem which boost their morale and motivation and moves towards to success and appropriate alignment with the organisation's objectives. Feeling empowered taps the inert potential of individuals and brings the best out of the individuals. Anyone who feels empowered are like highly charged batteries which performs very well

S'adapter et évoluer est certes essentiel dans une contexte de crise. Les rigidités constituant un frein à la performance personnelle/collective. Mais cette qualité comportementale ne se décrète pas. Si elle est portée par une sur-adaptation, elle pourrait conduire sur le long terme à une dissonance cognitive qui épuise, use le manager. If you wait long to see the end results and keeps your appreciation or recognition at bay, your team will never extend their fullest commitment and sincerity. Even very good runner in the marathan or competition needs cheering and claps to continue their pace and reach the destination. Start celebrating mile stones and small wins which gives them more strength and mental stamina to strike hard again and again. Appreciating them at each step when they climb will helps them to climb faster and swifter.

Small wins matter. I always make it a point to celebrate milestones, no matter how minor, to keep the team motivated and focused on the bigger picture.
