Most students who need extra help have difficulties in A. Processing B. Reading C. Capturing the main points D. Writing/spelling. This helps analyse where the difficulties lie is to bring in a newspaper. Have the articles prepared, with the main vocabulary on a sheet of paper, with one or two interesting sentences. Get student to orally make sentences with the words and use the good sentences to make similar sentences. This should only take 5 minutes. Then get student to silently read the piece. Ask them to tell you what it is about. Student reads aloud the piece. See if they would like to add to what they think the piece is about. Then ask them to reread silently noting the main points. jot these down as they read. Discuss Homework

This allows for those who are shining to lead, demonstrate, not be hindered while those who need more help, are able to develop their concept knowledge through interaction with others. This also encourages peer-learning.
