It is essential to give staff appropriate time to do the exam properly and fully without rushing. This also lita technological injury that is all too common in sonography. We need to staff appropriately for volumes. Getting resources for senior leaders is no easy task but show them the $$ revenue and you will have a better chance at getting the FTEs you need. Organizational politics sometimes comes into play which is very frustrating. Time management is essential to staffing. For our exams one patient per hour is our goal.

The root cause of overbooking is the lack of coordination between administrative and service quality area. Services are under pressure to ensure sufficient care to be self-sustaining and in some cases generate profit margins. But the administrative area must be sensitized about what is the real installed capacity of the service that does not affect quality. Why does the administrative area expect more than we can produce with quality? Generally because the quality area has not been able to convince them of how much we can produce. Overbooking shouldn't exist. Its effects are devastating on the quality of services and on the guarantee of health service flows.
