With a well-designed partitioning strategy, queries can still perform efficiently. 3. If you do delete data using the DELETE command, make sure to defragment the table afterward.

I've worked with different transactional databases where the importance of data is decreased over time. It means by partitioning for example log tables we can move less important tables to another database or just backup them and remove them from the database. Being familiar with the available index types for the platform is essential. For example, in SQL Server, be aware of and thoughtfully use geo-spatial indexes, filtered indexes, as well as clustered and non-clustered columnstore indexes.

Although scaling vertically can be a straightforward way to boost performance, there are limits to how much you can scale. To avoid performance issues, it is important to monitor resource utilization and plan upgrades. It involves partitioning your database across multiple machines, handling more transactions in parallel, and providing greater availability.
