Be candid about your career gap and do not assume that others will react negatively about it. I have great respect for those that take time to prioritize family needs or personal goals etc (opportunities to travel, enhance skills or education). REAL TALK: Be 'effin honest in your interviews. Career gaps happen. They aren't a bad word. It's not negative. Sure, some inexperienced recruiters are going to try and make you feel bad about it. If that happens- let's be honest- this is probably not the right company for you. I don't care why you had a career gap - personal or family reasons, laid off, sabbatical, or even just to de-stress and get back a life/work balance... BE HONEST. Here's how you can spin it: "While at my last role at X company when I was able to do X achievement, I had a family member suddenly get very sick and I was the best choice to take care of them. I did take leave at that company at that time, but I am now back and ready to focus on my career 100%."

Currently, I'm on a planned career break of four months, and I'm grateful for this time. I'm actively working on my Advanced Communication skills and also participating in a Personal Development program, both under the guidance of certified coaches. Career gap due to personal reasons is not something to hide or be ashamed of. At the end of the interview ask if they have any concerns about your background that may keep you from moving forward in the process. This can give you the chance to address any concerns head-on.

Be upfront and concise about your gap without oversharing. Emphasize what you've done during this time to stay productive and relevant. Highlight any volunteer work, freelance projects, or courses taken to maintain or enhance your skills.
