As a senior we are habitual to receive instruction from management regarding unexpected urgent task. So, it’s now common and expected for us. However, when we receive this type of task then definitely, I will start analyzing how to complete this properly with smooth execution. My plan will be 1. Generalized most urgent point. 2. Handover task to the right person who can easily accumulate data. 3. Distribute work based on experience. 4. Will stop less urgent work and divert them on most urgent task. 5. Find out interrelated task which is helpful for complete this. 6. Keep in touch with every person until finalized task.

Below are few guidelines to effectively prioritize and manage the resources for an urgent unexpected task: 1. First we have to prioritize tasks using a prioritization matrix, or MoSCoW, in terms of their urgency vs. importance. 2. Then tasks have to be linked with organizational objectives, resources would be utilized to support priorities that are strategic in nature. 3. We have to allocate resources by considering the availability of manpower, budget, and time. 4. Finally keep progress continuously on track; be prepared to reallocate resources should an emerging challenge need to be met.

In this fast paced economy we need to be a unicorn doing the respective task by myself being a manager and also an individual contributor . Critical tasks are like a part and parcel of modern day work culture, thus prioritizing tasks is paramount here . That said, Prioritizing is the first step only. Execution at speed and delivering the expected quality is something we need to give our prime focus on. And in this sort of situation, the whole organization needs to work as a seamless team where both the manager and the team need to play their part hand in hand and at the same time , cross functional teams need to be vigilantly supporting to bring the end result in due time.

Proper planning before execution can help a lot more in a good start of any urgent task and it adds an extra advantage if the tasks are unplanned and urgent, I would definitely take out some time to plan while analysing the urgency, complexity, and importance of different tasks, so that I can be able to forecast the upcoming challenges and prepare myself for that. Good planning leads to a successful execution.
