Don′t get confused! Feedback can either be positive, negative or neutral. If you want to improve your skills there are many different tools (just a few...): -Formal training -Learning by doing -Get a mentor (someone with true experience rather theorical knowledge) -Be an autodidact! but be careful not all available mainly in the internet has high value! -Old books have the fundamentals explained in a clearer way and new books are more focused on new technologies and applications (less theory) -Work first for a service company (they do research and develop technology) and then move to an operating company (they have the wells to apply what you have learned) -Be proactive rather than reactive -Always ask why and if possible to several persons

looking to improve your Drlg Eng technical skills? Get familiar with operation "on location". 1st strategy: Spend 1 year on location (with rig crew). Read papers (minimum 1 per month). 2nd strategy: Spend 1 year on location (with ComMan, and witness all operations as possible). Prepare the Game Plan for each operation. Read papers (minimum 1 per month).

2 Seek feedback from multiple sources

The second step is to actively seek feedback from different sources that can provide you with valuable insights and perspectives. These sources can include your supervisors, peers, mentors, clients, and industry experts. You can also use self-assessment tools, such as online quizzes, simulations, or case studies, to test your knowledge and skills. Don't be afraid to ask for feedback, but also be open to receive it when it is offered. 3 Analyze and prioritize feedback

The third step is to analyze the feedback you receive and prioritize the most relevant and actionable ones. The fourth and final step is to implement the feedback you have prioritized and evaluate the results. You can create an action plan with SMART goals, get guidance or coaching from someone experienced, take courses or webinars, practice your skills in real or simulated scenarios, and join professional networks or communities. After you implement the feedback, you should monitor and evaluate the outcomes. Did you achieve your goals? Did you improve your skills? Did you face any challenges or difficulties? What did you learn from the process? How can you keep improving? Using feedback effectively can help you improve your technical skills as a drilling engineer and advance your career. By following these four steps, you can make the most of the feedback you receive and apply it to your work. Remember, feedback is not a one-time event but an ongoing cycle of learning and improvement.

Constantly strive to receive feedback, both technical and emotional. Use the feedback as motivation no matter how big or small it is. If you are a young engineer, prioritize improving your skills that are going to help you improve in the area you are currently drilling, and then focus on new skills for an area you prospect to drill in the future.
