The term difficult can conjure up so many circumstances. First, who hired the General contractor (GC)? In Massachusetts, it's not the Interior Designer; it is typically the client that hires the GC. In my experience, if a GC/Interior Designer relationship is not working, it is often because of an apparent lack of systems and communication. The GC could be perceived as difficult because he is under pressure from the client that the designer is not privy to. Yes, you can see it can be complicated. But does not need to be. If the GC, architect, client, and interior designer have a clear set of expectations and understanding of each other roles, there tends to be fewer situations with “difficult” contractors.

3 File a complaint

Another option you have is to file a complaint against your contractor with the relevant authorities or organizations. This may include the state licensing board, the Better Business Bureau, the consumer protection agency, or the trade association.
