Unpaid internships can still offer valuable experience, but the commitment and resources provided by paid internships typically make them a superior option.

The majority of students today simply cannot take on unpaid work in this economic climate. Moreover, the value they bring to the operation in terms of new ideas, effort, and general output deserve some sort of compensation. There are so many companies leading the way for paid hospitality internships, I hope companies in other industries take note of the retention and quality of talent these paid opportunities are able to attract.

When one pays for service, it is an investment made and therefore ensures they get value for what they have paid for. I therefore believe that when a company pays an intern, this is a resource they have procured and therefore utilize it fully. In return, the intern gains experience and thus a win-win situation.

Paid internships should be preferred. However, if there's a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and experience and you can make it work, I wouldn't advise against it. I have known great things to come out of unpaid internships in terms of gaining industry knowledge, establishing connections/building relationships which help for future business opportunities.

Either paid or unpaid, any internship that doesn't offer career advancement shouldn't be embarked upon. The sole aim of internships is to give exposure, experience and equipped someone with industry skills.

Unpaid internships are a thing of the past. Most students have to work throughout college and have real bills they cannot afford to take on full time or even part time work without being paid. It is unfortunate (IMO) that this is still a subject of conversation/debate. It makes me wonder if we are all living in the same world because before asking someone to take an unpaid job all a person has to do is look up and around. Recent grads please make sure you are getting paid for your work. Understand that you will not be making what you would wish right out of the gate because you must get the "in the field" knowledge and experience, under no circumstances should you take a job that doesn't pay at all under the guise of "internship"
