Be ready for failure not only to success, keep your spirit high and move forward no matter what. 6. Always know what your business is and mainly WHY. 7. Know why you are the best, know your strength and rely on them.

It’s also important to know the limitations of your scope. Where does your expertise start and stop? Often times HR leaders oversee a diverse range of business areas but that doesn’t mean you are equipped to assist with all of them. Keep your projects focused the critical areas where you can provide the most value in the most efficient manner.

My top tips here are: - Set clear expectations upfront and communicate early and often - Schedule regular meeting cadences to check in on company updates, project status, and other matters arising - Use a Project Management Tool (We use ClickUp but Trello and Asana have tools too- or even keeping a spreadsheet works as long as you stay organized to regularly review and meet deliverables). Having this tool also supports prevention of Scope Creep. - Manage your calendar (and realistically) and don’t let your calendar manage you. Build in down time so you can nurture your creativity and innovation. They require space between to thrive.

Of course, one should always educate himself/herself. However, in my role as a consultant I see a great added value in the fact that I have a large number of diverse customers, from different business sectors with diverse "problems" that they turn to me with. That's actually what I'm learning the most from right now. It is literally priceless training. My own experience is non-transferable and priceless. That's what I'm selling now - diverse experience and knowledge gained through practice. I still go to external training, but it's more networking. I read and educate myself from sources abroad and try to learn from the best, but my own experience gained through practice is still TOP for me.

There is a possibility that one feels shortchanged as they try and negotiate hard on commercials. Out of respect, most of the time one gives in, which is a one way process. One might not see them extend the same courtesy. A step down the line, like following up for payment can get equally embarrassing. It’s a one way street and its best not to end up there.
