Customers are not always right but you can work with them and make sure they are taken care of in a positive way. Customers pay our bills so that is something to consider when helping customers.

You need to be flexible, a very good listener and most importantly, a great attitude! Attitude is everything. Travel and tourism are service driven endeavors. You have to posses the desire to please people. It can be difficult at times. Sometimes you have to improvise to keep things rolling along no matter what’s going on in the background. The show must go on!

'The customer is always right at the end of the day!' This phase goes a long way. Having the right attitude, customer care attributes will make you excel in the tourism & travel industry. After all they are the ones who pay for our bills.

Remember that it's the clients vacation, not yours. Listening to what they want and expect from their holiday, rather than planning an itinerary based on your interests. Happy clients and successful trips can lead to repeat bookings.

Es bien importante tener en cuenta que los planes que hayamos organizado para el cliente pueden cambiar o ser cancelados por una infinidad de razones desde el tiempo, salud, accidentes etc. Por tal razón, debemos estar al pendiente y tener alternativas a la mano para poder brindarle al cliente sin olvidar tener empatía hacia el cliente y ayudarlo a lidiar con la ansiedad que puede causar el que los planes cambien o se vean afectados.

Problem solving skill is art . And it also comes with experience. The ability to analyse and resolve problem is vital that to in time frame . You need to manage multiple issues at once .

I agree, executives who work in travel and tourism must be able to make quick decisions on the spot and for the good of the clients. It might happen that the executives could be handling clients from a different culture and or country. It is important to be open to offer solutions or make decisions that make your clients feel at ease and safe.

In my experience, the future is digital. In this day and age, digital skills cut across all ages, nationalities and careers. Without digital skills, an executive is bound to be left in the dark as the digital space is changing everyday.

Firstly, an online presence is crucial for marketing and reaching a wider audience. Si de todas maneras debemos estar actualizados con competencias digitales, porque todo ha sido automatizado y el que no sabe de computación en su profesión no podrá desenvolverse. Cada profesión tiene su programa y hay que saber utilizarlo, por ejemplo SABRE, AMADEUS, etc

If you are having interviews as a newbie and starting out in the travel industry, it is important to find out what programs or tools the company uses for the bookings. Companies who have invested in tools to make their employees work lives easier, will see positive results and happy clients. Live availability is everything. Having to call hotels and check whether there is availability over the clients requested dates for 4 pax is time consuming and leaves room for errors. With technology advancements, there are programs designed to pull data and generate itineraries and invoices, giving more accurate information. Having experience on travel programs/ software (Amadeus for example) will open up opportunities for your next career move.

There are 29 places called London in the world. There are many other places that have the same (or very similar) names as one another. You need an appreciation of world geography to be clear where you are sending people.

You need to be very mature and thick skinned in this industry. It's definitely not for sissies! You will be challenged like you never thought possible. In addition to all the skills needed you also have to be a magician, psychic and a counsellor. It's all worth it in the end if you're passionate about this industry.

Most of the above skills are necessary. Communication, patience & customer service are TOP. Each of those can be tested daily. A willingness to learn & seek out professionals for techie stuff works. Of course, computer knowledge & research capabilities are essential. This isca rapidly changing industry, stay on top of trends and changing laws. Travel Management in any capacity, whether with hotel, airlines, tour operators or travel advisor/entrepreneur can be very rewarding.

Sales skills! You can have great communication skills, but you also need to know how to seal the deal. Be likable and know your product and its value. You must create value.
