I personally think, curiosity and adaptability are the bedrock for a career in AI. Beyond the foundational skills in computer science and mathematics, the readiness to constantly learn and adapt to new technologies is vital. As we see AI is evolving rapidly, thus a passion for staying on the cutting edge, experimenting with novel algorithms, and solving complex problems is key. So I would suggest to embrace a learner's mindset, seeking out challenges that push your boundaries. If you're invigorated by change and driven by innovation, you'll find AI a rewarding field that never ceases to inspire.

I am often asked this question during career advice sessions. Think about how your upbringing, education, and experiences have shaped your perspective and skills. Ask yourself: Have you always been fascinated by technology and problem-solving? Did you take apart toys as a child to figure out how they worked (like Jeff Bezos)? Do you have a background in math, science, or programming? These factors will help you determine your aptitude for a career in AI.

Ensure you have a solid foundation in programming, data structures, algorithms, linear algebra, calculus, probability, and logic. To get started building a career in AI, your background needs to meet the requirements. There are three types of careers in AI. First there is the technical AI engineering career that requires you to have a good math and computer science background. Secondly there is AI compliance and user experience career that requires you to have background in law, business and UX. Finally, there is the entrepreneurial career that requires you to have a mix of business and technology background.

This may sound obvious, but you have to love data. Many people are gravitating to AI because it the current hot topic, but if you want to secure a reputation for eminence and build the kind of network you need to succeed, your genuine passion for data will need to come across. One of the chief hallmarks of someone who loves data is their open-mindedness about what the data can teach them. In every AI or analytics project I've done over the past 20 years, the data has completely shattered at least one of the major assumptions I've had coming into the project. This is now something I enjoy and look forward to, as it invariably improves my understanding of the world we live in.

Think about what you enjoy doing in your free time. Do you like solving puzzles, playing strategic games, or reading about emerging technologies? Are you fascinated by the potential of AI and its applications? Those are basic questions to get started.

AI field demand technical as well as soft skills. For technical skills, we need to improve programming skills, data driven skills. For soft skills, we need to improve communication skills, analytical skills.

You should have the skills needed to survive in a career in AI. For AI engineers coding skills in Python, C++, Java, Scala etc. is a must. To work on functional aspects of AI and AI human interaction, legal and UX skills are essential along with basic understanding of AI technologies. For AI entrepreneurs' knowledge of AI technologies and evaluating AI skillset of people and business fundamentals are necessary skillset to have.

You have to know the resources you are going to use to learn and stay UpToDate on latest development in the field of AI. Podcasts, Conferences, Research Papers, YouTube channels, blogs and social media are great resources to keep yourself updated.

Don't worry too much. If you're always curious about how things work and enjoy staying updated with the latest tech trends, you might find this field engaging. Remember, it's a relatively new field, so nobody is miles ahead of you!

All you have to do is try it out. Did you know how to do what you're doing today or did it take practice? This field is no different. The key difference for me is that there's less precedence and therefore allow you more creative ways to design and implement AI driven tools.

Specialize: Set goals to specialize in specific areas of AI that interest you, such as computer vision, natural language processing, or reinforcement learning. Developing expertise in a niche area can help you stand out and advance your career.
