VPN does provide security but it also comes with the flaw of latency as every packet will follow the process of encryption/decryption over SSL handshake, Organisations should be moving towards ZTNA Tech from SSL VPN as it offers the security and latency free portfolio.

SSL certificates are mandatory on every domain/URL we visit as the information we enter will not be saved somewhere else and is encrypted, the secure protocols that we use to manage the devices (SSH to be precise) have the creds encrypted unlike the telnet where creds are in plain text, and for file transfer SFTP needs authentication of creds to perform the same.

Zero Trust is the new form of Multi factor Authentication that is being followed by today’s enterprises using the combination of creds along with one time code on a ZTA App (Duo to be precise), whereas there are other aspects of Call/SMS for two factor authentication of webmail.

EDR/XDR plays a vital role in securing the endpoint regarding triggering the malicious file hashes downloaded on the endpoint from the web, They do perform periodic scans of the storage in the endpoint to protect it from vulnerabilities that are present on files which aren’t visible to the naked eye and do quarantine the threats that may hamper the productivity of the endpoint.
