Understanding the diverse user demographics, engagement patterns, and content preferences on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok allows for more effective and targeted campaigns. It's not just about being present on these platforms but strategically aligning your goals with the strengths of each, be it visual storytelling on Instagram or professional networking on LinkedIn. Flexibility and adaptability in choosing platforms based on campaign objectives contribute to a well-rounded and successful social media advertising strategy.

It may sound obvious, but research where your target audience likes to hang out. Be aware that some customers like to use multiple platforms to digest content. Also, be prepared to look at social media options you may personally dislike. For example, I do not like TikTok and would never personally post on that platform; however, if my ideal customer and competition use TikTok, then sometimes you need to bite the bullet and do what is best for the end result of your campaign goals.

When you dive into their world, and figure out their needs, goals, and challenges – it's like becoming a mind reader for their marketing. I make sure they see how social media advertising isn't just another thing; it's the solution to their problems and the ticket to their goals. Most of the time it is about producing a tailor-made strategy to fit current needs such as branding consistency or customer acquisition.

I have to disagree. In my experience, the statement above concerning understand your clients is incorrect. While understanding clients should be key for everyone in an organisation the task of social media advertising is a marketing function not a sales one. Understanding needs, goals and challenges as well as understanding problems is buyer persona 101. A sales person should not be involved with social media advertising other than understanding it’s function and the campaign goals. It is no coinsedence that companies the task the sales team with marketing functions are in general not as focused as having a sales team that sell. Sales and marketing should work hand in hand but make no mistake, they are two totally separate functions.

I also find audiobooks very useful as I can retain lots of information that I can then transfer to my working day. Development, both personal and professional, is key and a great way to learn is having a mentor; make sure that the mentor you select has been on a successful path and will guide you in the right ways, as well as being honest by telling you about mistakes that they have made and how to avoid them.

If you are a small local business, present yourself as small and local. Hyperlocal. This will help you build a close, dedicated community of clients. Talk to the people close to you. There is no need to reach for global appeal. Sometimes, simple is better.
