As a hiring manager, I would say the most important skill I look for is stakeholder management. Communicating effectively of stakeholders with different skills is one of the most important skills a business analyst should have.

- Engage a group of stakeholders in generating ideas and requirements through facilitated sessions to capture a wide range of needs and wants, sparking creative solutions to problems. - Conduct one-on-one or group interviews with stakeholders to gather detailed information about their requirements, expectations, and constraints to deep dive into specific areas of interest or concern. - Spend time observing end-users in their work environment to understand their tasks, challenges, and interactions with existing systems to identify unarticulated needs that stakeholders may not explicitly express.

- When a change request comes in, the first step is to document it thoroughly. This includes the details of the request, the originator, and the date received. Use a change request log to track and manage these requests systematically. - Evaluate how the requested change will affect the project’s scope, time, cost, and quality. This involves reviewing the implications for project deliverables, schedules, resources, and costs. - Determine the feasibility of implementing the change considering the project’s current status, available resources, and constraints. This might involve technical, operational, and financial feasibility assessments.

- Measure the quality of your work through error rates, compliance with requirements, or the need for rework. For a business analyst, this might include the accuracy of requirements documentation or the adherence to business needs and technical specifications. - Track how efficiently you’re able to complete tasks. I feel the most important question an interviewer should ask is how the Business Analyst approaches relationship building at all levels of the organization. I would hope the candidate answers that it is important to learn the overall culture of organization. I would also expect the candidate to mention tailoring, in that they would tailor there communication style based on the individual they are working with.
