Leading an HR transformation project, I aimed to make a tangible impact on our talent and performance management systems. I started with in-depth research, interviewing managers to identify pain points, and designed a competency framework aligned with our goals. Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders from the beginning ensured buy-in and made the new framework practical. Within six months, retention improved by 35% and engagement by 50%. When it was time for my review, I shared these results, backed by testimonials. The key takeaway? Demonstrate measurable impact, engage the right people, and communicate your success clearly—it makes a compelling case for growth and recognition.

1. Look at what is the most important thing for the business. Is it quality, customer satisfaction, revenue, etc. 2. Check if the business is struggling in any 1 of these areas. 3. Conduct a root cause analysis. Take corrective and preventive action. Study and note number driven results. 4. Approach your management equipped with these numbers and discuss how you can contribute similarly in future. 5. Then pitch for your promotion. Tell your manager that you aim at working consistently towards the growth of the business.

To effectively demonstrate my value for a higher salary or promotion, I focus on measurable impact and proactive contributions. I start by highlighting specific achievements, such as revenue growth, cost savings, or process improvements, that directly benefit the organization. Documenting these results with metrics reinforces my value. I also take on additional responsibilities and lead initiatives that align with company goals, showing commitment to its success. Regular feedback from peers and managers provides further credibility to my performance. By consistently aligning my efforts with the organization’s objectives, I build a strong case that my growth will benefit the team.

You can only prove your worth to others, if your own belief about your self-worth is unshakable. So before approaching any reward or promotion negotiation, your inner work needs to be done. Start by making a list of at least 30 examples how you added value in the past. Now extrapolate that into the future taking into account your new level of influence and motivation as a result of your promotion. If finding it difficult, try asking those, who work with you for areas where they felt you added value. Do not be shy and put those on your list. Seek to add financial value to your contributions. When you feel convinced - go to ask for your promotion. Be ready to receive more than you ask for!
