Ideally would have your market research and Product manager to be a few release cycles forward looking in terms of desired feature sets. But in a fast moving speed to market environment, there is always the "Must/Should/Nice-to" have brackets we maintain for requirements. Sometimes we have married that to spike capacity within the team to add muscle and increase throughput.

There are many different stakeholders in the project, each with his/her own understanding of the project. Besides, they have different expertise and different viewpoint. Not everybody understands the requirements in the same way. It is up to the web developers to explain the implications of a feature request. Feature request would mean work some of which is straightforward and some of which is hidden due to the hidden dependencies. It is imperative on the web developers to explain the true cost of a feature so that all the stakeholders could take a proper and well informed decision in terms of effort and the costand the timelines.

We often find ourselves navigating through a myriad of frameworks like Kano, MOSCOW, and RICE. While these frameworks are very valuable but can be trimmed that could focus on four core aspects can significantly streamline the prioritization process: Revenue Impact: Prioritize features and initiatives that directly contribute to revenue growth to ensure product meets market demands and drives financial success. Customer Stickiness: Features that increase user engagement and loyalty should be high on the priority list, as they contribute to long-term success. Low-Cost Value Additions: Sometimes, small enhancements can deliver significant value. Technical Debt: Managing technical debt is essential for maintaining a healthy product.

One way to ensure prioritization is to categorize user stories into categories; must have, good to have, may have buckets and set capacity on must have. Anytime a new request comes out , it in may have or good to have. Have an open discussion with sponsors with data points from the uses and stakeholders, if a user story is high priority than it must replace one of the existing user story from must have. This will help effectively prioritize. Another important tool are wire-framing tools which allow for rapid prototyping and help unearth complexity which are hard to find in design otherwise.

One of the main goals of agile is mvp based deliverables as we progress through sprints. This will not just provide good validation for the direction we are taking but also opportunity to course correct in due time rather than risking corrections at a very late stage that can prove pretty expensive.

Setting clear milestones helps track progress and meet deadlines. I allocate buffer time for unexpected delays and adjustments. Continually revising the project plan ensures it reflects the current scope. Engaging stakeholders regularly helps manage their expectations. Documenting changes provides a clear history for reference. Keeping the team focused on core goals prevents scope creep.

Unit Tests/TDD are some of the standard ways of testing in any engineering teams. Quality of Automation tests is often an area that is very under focused. Yes team has worked on some automation tests is not good enough a statement if it doesnt serve a purpose of either effort reduction or finding out quality issues core phases of the feature including integration areas.

This is where risk management comes in. I always include buffer time at a task & project level in my project schedules to accommodate any unforeseen changes, scope creep, or delays. I also continuously identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could impact the timeline.

Shoot for delivering the MVP(most valuable product) first. It will help concentrate on few most important features. Define Success criteria for each product feature just as you define the definition of done for user stories. It is ok to go after low hanging fruit if it still helps to achieve long term objectives.

Ensuring all teams are aligned towards the feature goals and they understand the purpose of the requirements in the first place is a key area. This is one area if not clearly understood can lead into different expectations from different teams and eventually lead to reworks.
