I've managed two different remote teams since 2020 and have found that a short daily stand-up call in the morning and an afternoon "GIF" check-ins in our Team chat space keep us connected and engaged with each other. We also have chat spaces that help us stay engaged and provide ways to get help on tough issues we are working on.

We conduct casual virtual meetings where we discuss interesting topics unrelated to work. While it may seem like a waste of time and resources at first glance, these casual meetings help develop trust and strengthen rapport, which significantly boosts productivity. I recommend all businesses hold casual meetings once a week to keep their teams engaged, especially in a remote work setting.

In my Opinion - Clearly defined objectives are crucial for alignment, motivation, and productivity in remote teams. Ambiguity about roles and responsibilities reduces engagement and effectiveness. Project management tools foster accountability, transparency, and autonomy. Regular check-ins provide feedback, clarify expectations, and strengthen team cohesion. Measurable goals enable results-based evaluations, crucial for maintaining focus and ensuring success in remote settings.

Absolutely agree! Clarity of goals (role, team, organisation and development) is really important. Sharing these at a team level and aligning the mutual accountabilities will help people stay on track and feel connected and supported. The most important thing for engagement is a sense of belonging to the team and their relationship with their manager.

When working remotely, clear goals are essential. Everyone should know their tasks and how they help the team. Use tools to track progress and hold regular meetings. This ensures everyone stays on task and motivated, understanding the importance of their work.

Have 1on1s with them depending on how often they individually need it and support them connecting with each other where they need it. Think about each of your members on a regular basis and reflect what individual challenges they might have in a virtual setup. If for instance someone doesn't share enough thoughts on business or personal topics in a virtual setup, start asking more questions towards her/him.

Practicing gratitude at the team level and celebrating success promotes wellbeing as well as belonging. We also want to make sure we are focused on learning through self-reflection, team or project retros. Doing this in a regular manner as part of your team operating rhythms builds capability and overall wellbeing.

Celebrate milestones, recognize individual achievements, and strive to understand personal circumstances that may impact work. Personalized feedback and one-on-one virtual meetings demonstrate your care for team members as individuals, rather than just employees. One of the shifts that have occurred over the past few years since the pandemic is the rise of hybrid and remote work opportunities. Continue to work with your team to gain an understanding of what is working whether it's team meeting conducted over Zoom, Teams, or other platforms. Could be making time for in person connection through an off-site meeting or scheduling consistent check-ins every week. Dedicating time to build relationships and grow the skills of the team will raise the engagement and connection in this new environment.
