Your team is underperforming. How can you turn things around?

Accepting the things we are lacking or performing below par is the first step. After that, we try to identify the real underlying reason of it.It could be due to a variety of factors, including incompetence, a lack of expertise, inefficiency, or human resources.

The first question is do you really have a team? Teams form naturally when team work is required to solve a problem -- that's rarely the case in firms that create 'teams' around logical units of work like audit, sales, etc. Assuming you do have a team, poor performance becomes a matter of trust: management of factualness, competence, and beneficence. Does the team understand the facts which form the measurement of performance and hew to them? As weird as it may sound, most of the times the issues are easy to tackle if addressed at early stages. Do not procrastinate in addressing the issues causing underperformance.

There can be many reasons why a team is underperforming. Understand the root causes of underperformance. This could include skills gaps, lack of motivation, unclear objectives, poor team dynamics, or external factors. Consider individual and team performance data, feedback, and your own observations.
