Cuando la creatividad se vuelve rutinaria, en mi experiencia, es porque se encontró un proceso y se usó hasta desgastarse. ?Qué sigue? Cambiar el proceso o, al menos, alguno de sus elementos. SI bien esto suena simplista, plantearse estas preguntas puede ser un buen punto de partida: ?Cómo se están haciendo las conexiones entre conceptos? ?Qué tipo de información se estaba dejando fuera en el proceso anterior? ?Cabe en este nuevo como para generar algo nuevo? ?Es necesario platicar con alguien de un perfil distinto para buscar nuevas perspectivas? ?Se ha hecho algo parecido en otro mercado? ?Cómo crees que se llegó a ello? Y la principal para mí: ?llegó el momento de subir nivel o innovar el enfoque en lo que habíamos venido haciendo?

Firstly, I would like to normalize the idea of getting stuck in the creative rut because once you tell them it’s normal, they will start responding well. The following steps would be: Individual Sessions: Try having individual sessions with your team members to understand the exact problem. Introduce Variety: Rotate tasks amongst team members or introduce new approaches to stimulate and spark creativity. Foster a Collaborative Environment: Promote brainstorming sessions amongst team members and generate fresh ideas and perspectives. Set Clear Goals and Rewards: Establishing clear objectives is pivotal so they don't digress from the original ask. Recognize achievements to motivate and engage the team.

It would genuinely be a personal mistake if the team has felt that because as a leader my no 1 job is to collaborate and make sure I make them feel like they’re not alone and have someone to fall back on. Secondly, one doesn’t need to immediately ignite the innovative spark because it’s genuinely not a condition of one day. Being overwhelmed blocks your creativity to 2x and that’s a personal experience. However I would simply take my team for a nice walk or do an activity or just take them for dinner and ask them to just simply go home. Sometimes you don’t need to do the larger than life engagement activities to bring the spark. The feeling your team should feel is a sense of collaboration.

Creative routine is something that is very common in creative teams. It happens when the team has been the same for a long time, the projects do not change and the priority is business. Often, achieving economic results in a company does not go hand in hand with being super creative, but with meeting the expectations of a client. If as a team we settle for giving just enough to make the client happy, it will be a sad, grey, uninnovative and unstimulating path for the team. Sometimes it also happens that the client does not have the training or talent to differentiate creative quality from mediocrity, and rejects good ideas because he is not able to see their potential or because he is afraid of risking too much.

My wife and I always debate whether we're in a "rut" or a "groove". Can you be in a "taco rut"? No. The same applies to repetitive creative challenges. At Sans Serif we're blessed with recurring work that entails solving similar creative problems year-after-year-after-year. It's a beautiful thing for firm stability and predictability. To stay fresh, we rotate a portion of the design team annually. Some people stay on the account to provide continuity and institutional memory—and some switch to other clients. It means, we can always look at the challenge with fresh eyes. We like to think about how excited we'd be if that work walked in the door for the first time. Maintaining that perspective—it never gets old.

Bringing in a fresh perspective is sometimes a lifesaver. Designers often develop some level of emotional attachment to their design and may not be able to look beyond what they need to. Making sure to include someone who has no emotional connect to the project ensure the design is objective and unbiased. They can provide critical feedback, identify potential flaws or areas for improvement, and offer new ideas that the original team might have overlooked.

Take your team out regularly for a live experience together. Design conferences, art galleries, hiking, open house architecture tours. Spark creativity with other creative disciplines or the great outdoors. There’s some amazing immersive experiences out there. I guarantee they’ll come back soured and ready to create.

Having led creative teams throughout my career, I believe that facilitating brainstorms with team members to feel inspired is essential. More importantly, if you have a chance to visit your clients that have physical offices on site, or simply host an online brainstorming session to spark creativity, understanding the clients’ challenges in real-time is an essential part of applying the right strategic and creative approach. When clients feel truly understood, they are more likely to be involved in ideation, and to buy into the team’s creative concepts.

Tips for Effective Team Brainstorming Define the Objective: Ensure clarity on the topic. Create an Open Environment: Encourage free expression without judgment. Use Visual Techniques: Mind maps and whiteboards help. Set Ground Rules: No criticizing ideas, ensure participation. Small Groups: Facilitate interaction. Incorporate Diversity: Mix members from different departments. Round Robin Method: Each participant shares an idea. Stimulate Creativity: Encourage bold ideas. Document Everything: Write down all ideas. Evaluate and Select: Choose the best ideas post-session. These practices improve idea generation and strengthen team collaboration.

Creating and establishing a pathway for updating team members has always been effective. Personally, I have found it very beneficial in advancing projects and improving the quality of the final output. Training that elevates individuals one or more levels from their current position is considered a long-term investment.

Siempre podrás reorganizar el equipo, introducir nuevas metodologías, pero lo que mejor resultado da es, que cada integrante del equipo trabaje la solución en solitario en su casa, sin censura, sin intromisión de otras personas como si fuera para un cliente que le contrata para sus servicios. Da igual el roll que ocupes en la compa?ía, todo vale y todos son iguales. Después se presentan las ideas en otro contexto. El equipo debe reunirse en otro espacio que no sean las oficinas habituales o espacio de trabajo habitual. Puede ser incluso un lugar en el que nunca hayan estado. Un lugar que inspire, sin cronómetro para permanecer allí, con libertad para entrar y salir. La confianza es clave para generar buenas ideas.

Learning breaks are a must when work becomes a routine. We did so many new things, from photography to learning Swahili. We always explore new online courses, and we aren't shy about trying knitting, crocheting, and other crafts.

Encourage your team to take breaks for learning. This could be through online courses, reading articles, or attending webinars. Continuous learning can spark new ideas.

To reignite innovation in a team stuck in a creative rut, encourage idea sharing by fostering an open environment where all suggestions are welcomed without judgment. Initiate brainstorming sessions with a focus on fresh perspectives, perhaps through role-swapping or hypothetical scenarios. Use techniques like giving constructive feedback and encouraging others to speak out their mind to build on each other's ideas, creating a collaborative flow. Regularly rotating tasks and introducing creative breaks can also rejuvenate the team’s mindset.

We have an idea wall where we write ideas on stickies without signing our names. Ideas are universal, and we don't stress over who wrote which idea. We read them once a month and choose the good ones for implementation.

I make sure that repetitive task is something that is easy and leave a lot of time to socialize and discuss about ideas what to learn, what in house project, or to lead a portfolio project of each members. The most important part is, when an employee want to exit the company in the future they will have improved themselves.

It has become a practice these days to start every project through an idea sharing meeting which we call by different names. And there are countless collaborationtools these days for the purpose. I think is a now kind of a ritual that improve team collaboration and helps overcome the starting trouble designers often face when they a to handle projects individually.

Whiteboarding sessions can be a game-changer when teams hit a roadblock on routine tasks, fostering collaboration, creativity, and fresh perspectives to get things moving again.

La routine s'installe lorsqu'on se dit qu'on sait déjà ce qu'on a à faire, qu'on ne prend pas le processus de création comme un voyage et non une destination. Nous avons comme rituel, de voir ce qui peut être amélioré systématiquement lorsqu'on finit de créer chez ice?. Ceci nous renvoie vers Pinterest, Behance, Dribble... On va s'inspirer, on va regarder avec l'objectif de trouver de meilleures créations dans les mêmes contextes. ?a nous pousse souvent à chercher de nouveaux procédés, techniques ou même une toute autre vision.

One thing that I have found helpful is a brainstorming session with gathered inspo to start the conversation, compare ideas and find a direction that fills the brief. From there we can create loose concepts and start the creative process.

Giving creative freedom to designers and encouraging them to take calculated risks often serves as a secret mantra to success. This approach not only fosters a culture of creativity and innovation but also empowers designers to take ownership of their projects, leading to higher job satisfaction and better performance

One of the main ways to foster creativity in a team is by providing freedom of action. Team members should be able to solve problems both individually and collectively. Additionally, the mistakes and errors they make should not be a barrier to their progress, as creativity emerges in this manner, and this is how the team can grow. If reprimands follow every mistake, the team will refrain from exploring new methods and approaches, and no progress will ever occur.

My team believes in getting work done. Learning and seeking the shortest path is highly valued within the team. We do a lot of research and continuously learn new things, particularly new ways of working smarter, faster, and better.

This may be controversial, but not all creative work needs to be innovative art. Often, the most effective creative isn’t groundbreaking but meets objectives efficiently. Innovation for its own sake can be a distraction, especially with limited resources. To break out of a creative rut, encourage regular reflection on past work to identify what worked, what didn’t, and why. This process fuels learning and helps the team grow while staying focused on delivering impactful results rather than chasing innovation at the expense of functionality.
