Open communication is the key, even if that means they are checking in more regularly to let you know how they’re getting on. They need to know that you’re always there for them in a supportive, non-judgmental way. We could also regularly schedule longer fixed meet up times to specifically tackle challenges they may wish to talk about. Whether that be a change of hours or wanting to learn ways to become less stressed. It’s best to listen actively, with an understanding and sympathetic ear and to ensure follow up discussions are completed.

One thing I’ve found helpful is to allow team members space to share their wins! Then everyone in the team can see their successes, however big or small, and congratulate them too. This helps to raise team spirit, involvement, and to feel more connected with each other. It’s public (within the team) and it means we enable a non-judgmental safe place for members to share. This could also be shared to the general public in newsletters, on a website, or on any social media platforms to emphasise community and great work achievements.
