During my time in Education and life, I have learned that sometimes you have to celebrate—even by yourself. This may sound strange to some, but learning to celebrate yourself and the smallest of minor victories is the beginning of learning to celebrate more prominent successes. So celebrate the small things and watch the BIG things grow and grow!

Working with a pupil with severe behavioural issues completely radicalised how I celebrated 'success'. This links closely to positive reinforcement (of which there is a wealth of research), and SUPER helpful is Loveless' 1997 Mnemonic: IFEEDV. For the aforementioned pupil, I had to entirely reimagine how I celebrated success in order to help him. "Thanks for coming to school today" "You have your pen ready, this is a great start" "You were so calm in that situation, well done" Things that I would normally take for granted I started to celebrate with him. I watched his morale grow and GROW. I replicated this model with my team, and guess what... Suddenly my team felt valued, motivated and confident to achieve in their work.

Recognition is very much important; by recognizing their team efforts you help the workforce to take the ownership of their work which naturally develops loyalty inside them towards their work.

In my experience, celebrating success is often overlooked. Many of us were trained with a reward system when we were younger but it has been lost on adults. Both admin and the teachers should outline each step of the collaboration process along with small ways to celebrate to gain momentum with meeting consistently and then add the other elements of lesson planning.

Recognize and celebrate both small and large successes within the team. Whether it’s the completion of a lesson plan or a particularly effective collaborative effort, acknowledging these achievements boosts morale and reinforces the value of teamwork.
