Gaining knowledge is a key component to improve us. Sharing the knowledge with the team helps to collaborate and keep themselves up-to-date on the technology and will open wide doors to brainstorm on it. Example: Whenever we do any deployment the person who has similar knowledge or experience will lead the deployment and complete it. After getting into the steady state the person can share that knowledge with the other team members and make them understand about it. To get them to the root of the technology we can task them with some kindof use cases that will allow them to learn and the same can be shared with the others. Having a thorough knowledge is a key parameter to have a successful team for the long run.

Communication plays a vital role in maintaining the team knows what's happening in the environment. It will allow them to learn the new stuff including the one which they don't have hands-on. Also, it will be the team members responsibility to support the team member who is driving the activity. Example: when a team is copied in an email, the person who is available in the shift will acknowledge and start working on it. If they need any attention or support from the lead or seniors then they can use the email as a reference and collaborate internally. It will also help to avoid escalation and ensure the deliverables are getting delivered on time. If we don't communicate and collaborate it will lead to escalation.

Having a simplified process will help the user and the team to use it. In an example we follow a lot of processes to create a site to site tunnels or configure new security policies. We can make the process simple by having a process document that shows the task which we do and the approvals required for it. Most of the delays will happen during the approval phase and making the process simplified like having the right approvers to make the decision will help to improve the technician who works on it to have better understanding of the requirement and the impact analysis on it. Try to make things simple and affordable to the organization will ease our life.

In my previous roles, I ensured compliance with various security protocols, managing and monitoring network devices. Example: when we task a team member to identify and remediate any vulnerability to adhere to the compliance standards and if he deliberately works on the task and accomplish it within the provided timeframe with zero impact is an exceptional act he performed. If we give an incentive in the form of some rewards to recognise his efforts by providing appreciation in front of the team or larger the audience will help the person to get motivated and will motivate others to accomplish similar kinds of things in future. It will also build a strong and competitive environment to achieve more in their careers.

Knowing and addressing the concerns from the team and customers will help to avoid complex issues. If we get any concerns from the team about lack of knowledge on the security updates or experience in the technology or behaviour of the other team members, its the responsibility of the team lead or the managers to address and fix them. Addressing the concerns will help us to bring confidence within the team and enables us to focus on the deliverables. If we didn't address their concerns it may make them lose their confidence and interest in the work which they do. Its important to have a 1:1 discussion with the individual team members and along with the team lead will help us to understand their concerns and fix them.

Address these concerns in order to provide solutions and/or adjustments that minimize disruption. After that, provide technical support and resources to make the update process as smooth as possible. This could be in the form of recognition, rewards or any other motivational factors.
