Your team is overwhelmed with manual processes. How can you streamline their workflow?

ldentifying issues is the first step to consider when evaluating a process. Once issues are identified you then apply corrective measures to resolve the challenges or issues. In this case, manual processes should be evaluated and find areas where manual work can be replaced by use of machines or technology. For example in my Accounting experience, there are so many recurring journals(journals that need to be posted every monthend such as rent). These recurring journals, once ldentified can now be made to be automated in the accounting system so that we eliminate manual posting of these journals. By doing this, manual work is reduced and employees can concentrate on other tasks.

First, I find a simple automation system suitable for my business and start defining processes and instructions. In the meantime, I will rest the team and only get help from senior and middle managers for this purpose. I listen to their suggestions and try to finalize the best ones based on experience.

Try to create a framework to identify tasks and responsibilities. Then segregate them into buckets such as core competencies, operational tasks, tasks that have direct impact on revenue/ any other performance metrics. Now there are some tasks that fall under core competencies which can be performed only by that person and cannot be delegated no matter how much manual work it requires. Whereas operational tasks can be automated, delegated or certain processes can be put in place to make these tasks more efficient.
