Rewarding employees can go a long way. People take pride in what they do and want to be recognized for being the best. We keep a leaderboard for all employees to see. It is a friendly, but stiff, competition to see who gets in first place. The top 3 crews of the month are always given a reward and public acknowledgement of their achievements in front of their peers. This keeps the fire burning bright within them to do well.

To address this diplomatically, I start by discussing the missed milestones in a one-on-one meeting to understand any challenges they face. I offer support, clarify expectations, and collaboratively develop an improvement plan. Regular check-ins help track progress, ensuring accountability while fostering a positive and solution-focused environment.

Missed milestones require a balanced approach. Address the issue diplomatically with these steps: — Start with a one-on-one conversation: Discuss the missed milestones privately to avoid embarrassment and foster open dialogue. Use active listening to understand their challenges. — Revisit roles and timelines: Ensure they have clarity on deliverables and deadlines. Use SMART goals to refine expectations. — Offer tailored support: Identify barriers and provide tools, training, or reassigned tasks to help them succeed. — Monitor progress through tools: Leverage software like Asana or Monday.com for visibility on task completion. Approach with empathy while reinforcing accountability to improve performance.

1) Ensure that expectations and deliverables are set and defined in clear, concise and valid work packages to ensure that those who are responsible for completing the work, understands what is to be done (and by when it is expected to be completed). 2) Ensure that the roles and responsibilities are clearly defined. Milestones tend to be missed through misalignment and misunderstandings between various roles within a team. 3) Assess the project framework and the processes being utilised by the team to complete the project. If the framework and processes (the parts) are not understood or complete, one cannot expect the machine (your team) to work. 4) Ensure that those working on the deliverables have the necessary (aligned) capacity.
