I could not agree more. Failure can result in one of two primary behavioural responses 1) 'I am not going to be the one to be held accountable for this', therefore a defensive response ensues, with blame being deflected and apportioned elsewhere 2) 'Although I share culpability for the problem, we need to come together and learn lessons to ensure we never repeat the failure and can improve', resulting in an open and transparent 'safe space' review to bring out the learnings and create positive change The first response will result in little positive change and a damage to team dynamics. The second will create a pulling together and sharing of challenge, with the team behaviours and direction being strengthened through adversity.

The first step is to acknowledge the failure openly and honestly, without minimizing reality. This will show your team that you cannot be afraid to face reality. After that, it is inevitable to try your best to extract all the learning and what could be done differently to have greater chances of success in the next opportunity. But you cannot let this failure shake the team, as you will certainly have several other reasons to celebrate. Foster a growt mindset and support them emotionally, giving all the necessary support to reverse the situation, lift their heads, and move forward.

Major failures don't depend on specific rules. They come from various challenges and are always opportunities to learn unless they're resolved completely. Here's how I'll help: 1. Make a checklist of the steps we've taken. 2. Review the checklist to find the best ways and figure out what caused the problem. 3. Recommend ways to improve skills if needed. This will help the team feel more confident for future projects like this.

It's very important to acknowledge failure. Have a group meeting with your team members and discuss the possible reasons for the failure. Ask each team member to jot down the learnings. Not all the projects end up with success. After one successful project multiple attempts are involved. The best is to do the RCA i.e Root cause Analyses where you and your team list down the various causes which led to the failure, at which point it has gone wrong and what would have prevented it.

Everyone needs to have the ability to contribute. There are no stupid statements or answers . Write everything done. Maybe split into smaller groups of 3/4 where people will feel more comfortable to contribute

Start by reminding everyone what the project or task was supposed to achieve, also ask what went well during the project. Open for discussion about any problems or challenges that came up, along with that talk about why things happened the way they did. Figure out what we can learn from both the good and the bad. and come up with ideas to solve any problems for next time. Decide who will do what to make things better in the future and think about what we want to achieve next time.

Celebration, recognition, awards, rewards, perks etc..makes every employee happy. It gives a sense of pride and happiness that their hardwork is noticed and appreciated. It encourages others also to try their best...

What works well is to start by listing what went well BEFORE digging into what didn't go well. It puts people's head in a different place.

Its one of the difficult task to implement changes among the team , especially when the team members are old in the organisation. Any quick decision on roles / responsbility change may reduce the confidence or demotivate the individual or team. Redefine or address - 1. VISION of the team. 2. Strength and weakness of individual and team. 3. Define the change plan 4. Take the suggestion from the team how can we bring the change. 5. Share the best change plan along with benefits of the change, give sufficient time for team to think and adapt for thr change. 6. Roll out at offsite event ( Definately not in the office , Desk , meeting room etc )

In any event of failure, it is obvious that the team or individual gets demotivated and reduces their confidence. It is important task for the leader to reestablish the connection/alignment among the team by recalling their core strength , competency & new learnings from the previous events. Define the "Scope of Improvement " post 360 degree feedback tool and arrange the required trainings to improve the skills. Review and track the risks and their mitigation plan for improvements or avoid any major delays in future. When an effort fails after a lot of hardwork and burning the midnight oil, the initial response definitely would be that of low self esteem and demotivation. As a team leader, the first step would be confidence building exercise by bringing in the growth mindset. Get together of the team, analysis of the overall conduction and most importantly, appreciation of the efforts and restarting with a modified approach can always work wonders.
