I have always known that we all have varying degrees of thought. So to respect one’s way of thinking as their interpretation of our leadership’s vision is to make them a part of the collective. Bits and pieces will always add up to a whole.

Understanding gaps is way harder than one might think. In some of my roles understanding a difference or disagreement within your team took someone willing to listen, I mean truly listen and have the ability to understand both sides of the gap. Tools like empathy, active listening will be a great skill to make you the leader that can close those gaps within your organization.

What has worked in my experience is bringing the team to the table, in person or virtual. Define a clear objective and create an environment where every team member has a voice. A well engaged team eliminates any gaps of understanding. Furthermore, by providing an opportunity for everyone involved to share, ask, and promote their ideas will keep a vested interest in the project.

The “gaps” you identify are often derived from past experiences, some from long ago. Take the time to listen to their stories to drive your perspective toward filling the gaps, rather than trying to tug toward the middle.

For a team to succeed, its very important that all of the team members, should understand & own the big picture. Vision can't be imposed from top. It need buying in from everyone. For that to happen,everyone should be clear,how is he contributing towards that vision & should be motivated to do that. Team should understand that either team wins or full team loses.Its collective work. By sharing objective & supporting each other, team can meet the various goals of the company. Each team member should be assigned a task, which aligns with his strengths & give personal satisfaction to him. Each person has personal ambition. Getting a sweet spot, where your work helps you in achieving your personal ambition creates a win-win for all.

Articulate the overall goals of your thought leadership initiatives. Ensure these goals are clear and agreed upon by all team members. Connect these goals to the broader vision of your organization. This provides a unified direction and purpose.Break down the objectives into smaller, manageable milestones that the team can work towards collectively. When the team understands and buys into the shared objectives, it becomes easier to align their efforts.

Establishing a psychologically safe environment where every member feels comfortable sharing their thoughts is key. Implement regular, structured forums for feedback and brainstorming sessions, ensuring everyone has an equal voice. Emphasize active listening and empathy in all communications. Encourage team members to view differing opinions as opportunities for growth rather than conflict. By valuing diverse perspectives and facilitating thoughtful discussions, you can drive innovation, build trust, and enhance overall team performance.

Crafting a shared, inspirational vision aligns team efforts, highlights broader impacts, and fosters purpose. This unity boosts morale, productivity, and positively impacts organizational culture and the P&L.

This ensures buy-in and commitment.Take the best ideas from each perspective and synthesize them into a cohesive vision.Once the vision is crafted, articulate it clearly and ensure it is documented and communicated effectively.A well-crafted vision that reflects the collective input of the team can serve as a powerful unifying force.

Clarifying roles within a common vision ensures each team member understands their responsibilities and value. This clarity boosts efficiency and productivity, while unclear roles can muddy the waters and decrease performance.

A scary concept with role clarity is understanding. Many people do not know their role and can often over step without even realizing this. Yes, if everyone was to stay in their lane and understand what value they do bring to the conversation and know when they have done all they can do things will run smooth.

This is extremely helpful, to have clear roles in a team. In my experience having these established early on is key. Two things to think about; 1. Assign roles to each member leaning on their strengths. 2. Revisit each member’s progress and adjust accordingly.

In order to succeed, it is essential for the team to always be aligned with the common objective, business goals, and vision. However, there may be instances when realigning roles and responsibilities to allow for personal growth should be considered. This is important for maintaining balance and momentum.
