Your senior team members are in conflict. How can you support them effectively?
When your senior team members clash, stepping in with the right approach is crucial. To navigate this challenge:
- Encourage open dialogue by facilitating a neutral space for discussion where all parties can voice their concerns.
- Implement conflict resolution training to provide your team with the tools to handle disagreements constructively.
- Suggest a third-party mediator if internal efforts don’t resolve the tensions, to bring an unbiased perspective to the table.

Senior team members in conflict... What a surprise! Challenge for you: point out one organization in the world where there is no conflict! for-Profit or Non-Profit, Private or Public, unfortunately "high egos" exist everywhere... Would be interesting to see what happens now that we will happen to our ego when we will start competing with AI-bots for our jobs! What is missing from us, from our organizations and we behave like this? Is it lack of Values, of common Purpose, of sense of Fulfillment, or some Humility? Would love to hear from you what is missing... so that we can collectively find it and move to embrace it!

Facilitate a structured conversation to help them articulate their concerns and perspectives, ensuring everyone feels heard. Encourage active listening and empathy by asking team members to reflect on each other’s points of view. Next, guide them to identify common goals or shared values that can serve as a foundation for collaboration. Help them brainstorm potential solutions that address both parties' needs and concerns. Finally, follow up after the discussion to ensure that agreements are being honored and that any lingering issues are addressed promptly. Encourage regular check-ins to foster ongoing communication and prevent future conflicts

When senior team members clash, stepping in with a level-headed approach is key. I start by creating a space for open dialogue, where both sides can voice their perspectives without interruption. It’s about letting them feel heard first. Next, I focus on identifying common goals—reminding them of the bigger picture and what the team is striving to achieve together. If tensions are high, I might facilitate smaller, focused conversations to clear the air. Finally, I encourage a solution-oriented mindset, steering the discussion toward actionable steps rather than dwelling on disagreements. It’s all about turning friction into forward motion!

Conflict within teams is a sign of engaged members and that’s a positive. One of the best ways is to foster open communication by understanding both sides of the coin. One thing that always works for me is to create alignment on a common objective and focus on achieving that. An open communication would mean we discuss accepting various ways of reaching the same goal. As long as we get the required impact being agile in ways of working is welcomed
