Continuous learning is par for the course, this is a given, however engineers are called to a MUCH higher standard! It's not enough to just state that we should be doing ongoing education, this is the minutia. Rather we should be learning with a purpose and a focus. There should be a clear set of objectives, ideally project focused. We should build a learning roadmap that includes developing technologies for yourself, even if it means reinventing technologies that are already out there, such as building your own web crawler, scripting language, operating system, compiler or no-code framework. This is proactive professional growth!

In clinical trials there are 3 grades to findings: minor, major and critical, where the latter always spikes to justify its merit. This is the time to be transparent and open up conversations. Important to get the view of your stakeholders firts as there is some degree of personal opinion in any finding. Take them through your thought process step by step. Stick to regulations and how this finding impacted on participants safety and data integrity. Usually it is due to a combination of multiple major findings in the same category that caused the jump from major to critical that needs to be explained. But most importantly is the corrective and preventative action plan. Support them in the CAPA process, this is where trust is regained.

It is on us how we involve all parties, bring them into confidence and share data seeking their input. But the end result is your responsibility, so don't hesitate to step forward and take the steering wheel.
