Remaining flexible is extremely important with not only our professional lives but our personal lives as well. The adage “things change and seldom remain the same” is absolutely true. Although I do not encourage being fearful of things “taking a turn”, an expectancy of the unexpected is healthy and realistic. With that said, we deal with stressors and change best when we are actively doing things that keep us mentally, physically and spiritually healthy. Being fully charged and refreshed is the best solution for life; whether it’s the expected or unexpected. It’s much easier to prepare than repair. In other words, don’t wait until the train derails to make changes.

Then, I focus on small, immediate steps that I can control. It might be jotting down the new priorities or tackling a simple task to regain momentum. And honestly, I’ve learned to give myself permission to feel frustrated for a moment. It’s okay. Once I let that pass, I can refocus and approach the challenge with fresh energy.
