Alway start with core problem statements: what are the major problems in this domain? get as many of them down as possible in a group brainstorm and then group them all together. most problem statements fall into a few of the following buckets: 1. Data trust 2. Secure & compliant ops 3. Accelerating analytics & AI insights Think through: a/ which ones are the biggest challenges and b/which will have the most impact on the business --> then bucket solutions depending on those two things

The first and most important part of the project. I always see three set of teams in this : Final End User Community - Data Owner & Process Owner Org - IT D&AOrg ( driving the implementation). Having that said, in my experience, I have seen the assessment of needs is performed only with the 2nd and 3rd teams above. I understand the process and data owner org represent the final business community, but still I feel the final end user community should be a part of the assessment. They will represent the last mile need and pain points. I would like to hear thoughts from peole reading this.

With my two previous experiences of DG Implementation, one thing I have learned is as a part of these program, we need to make the Enterprise Data Owner who represent the business functions accountable for the successful adoption. Business needs to really come into this tool and self serve most of their needs here. I would say, the program team should define the success KPI directly to the adoption of the tool. Finally a quote that I always say : You can spend millions in process and technology, unless people don’t adopt it I would say we don’t bring any value to organization
