Why on earth would I be talking to "learners" about gamification in the first place? If their eyes are glazing over, maybe it's because we're talking to them about things that only L&D people care about? Instead of trying to get them interested in gamification for gamification's sake, how about we give them something radical, like, oh I dunno, opportunities to learn relevant and useful things?

Gamification fatigue is real, especially when it starts feeling like “just another hoop to jump through.” To reignite motivation, let’s return to what made it exciting; fun, relevance, and engagement. Shift gears by connecting game achievements to real-world growth. Introduce “choose your own adventure” paths or surprise challenges that align with learners' personal goals. Swap generic badges for milestones that feel personal and unique. Add social twists, like peer-created challenges or collaborative puzzles, where learners play a role in shaping the game. And embrace flexibility—give them options to set their own level-up goals. Letting learners lead keeps gamification fresh and meaningful!
