This is the main to have suppliers show you their risk mitigation strategy. Having tooling at different locations allows you to ramp up when needed to ensure you can meet demand. Secondly, you should always have a second tier supplier. Pricing may be higher due to giving them less volume, but this will allow you to increase production as needed. For suppliers unable to meet demand, you’ll need to see why. Is it their capacity? Are they running one, two or three shifts? All these need to be asked to determine where the opportunities are in order to get achieve the demand being required.

It is essential to categorize the importance of each machinery based on its criticality and have a well-in-advance time plan for replacing spare parts based on the PMS. In this case, we must be proactive and always have the necessary stock on board. Nevertheless, it is always essential to have alternative sources so that when the vendor cannot meet our requirements, we have a plan B available with reliable, maker-approved vendors.
