Your design choices clash with client feedback. How do you navigate the friction with developers?
When your design choices meet resistance from clients or developers, it's crucial to find common ground without compromising creativity. To smooth out the friction:
- Engage in active listening to understand their concerns and objectives fully.
- Present data or case studies that support your design decisions and highlight their effectiveness.
- Propose a compromise that incorporates their feedback while maintaining the integrity of the design.
How do you handle creative differences in your projects? Let's exchange strategies.

-
1.Open Communication: Discuss friction points openly with developers. 2.Understand Client Feedback: Analyze client feedback to grasp their concerns. 3.Align Objectives: Ensure designs and feedback align with project goals. 4.Collaborative Problem-Solving: Find a middle ground satisfying both design and client needs. 5.Explain Design Rationale: Clearly articulate your design reasoning. 6.Flexibility: Adjust your designs based on valid client feedback. 7.Facilitate Meetings: Organize stakeholder meetings to reach consensus. 8.Document Agreements: Record decisions to prevent misunderstandings.

Approach I usually take is: Provide a clear and detailed understanding of requirements Explain how the design solves the problem with example use case, together with long term effects. Document not just pros but also cons of the design with reason. Document alternate approaches and the reason why they were not considered, long term effects, helps a lot in reducing future friction. Try to design iteratively with regular review feedback helps in achieving same level of understanding and better results. Listening to the concern empathetically helps in coming up with better explanations and improvements in the approach. Always trying to improve in whatever way possible. Provide long & short term cost estimates as compared to other approaches

When design ideas conflict with client or developer feedback, it’s important to keep things smooth without losing creativity. Here's how I handle it: - Listen closely to understand their concerns and goals. - Share examples or reasons that show why the design works well. - Offer a middle ground that includes their feedback but still keeps the core design. How do you deal with creative differences in your projects? Would love to hear your approach!

Reasoning: Properly articulate the clients feedback with the reason as to why the design has to be the way it was asked and make the developers understand the bigger picture. Share product vision: Most of the times the developers are not shared with the complete vision of the design which results in misunderstanding of the requirement.
-
Ensure Clear Requirements: Always clarify requirements upfront to avoid misunderstandings later. Be Prepared for Functional Changes: Expect to put in extra effort when clients request changes, especially in functionality. Communicate Non-Functional Needs: Help clients understand the importance and challenges of non-functional requirements like performance, security and encourage compromise in design when needed. Need to actively collaborate from time to time to minimize conflicts and ensure smoother project delivery.
