I start this process before a client even signs up with me: I make sure that during the discovery call, he/she understands my coaching approach and its scope; and based on their problem, I can help them solve with it my approach and scope. This is to ensure that we are on the same page on what will happen when the coaching process starts. I'm open to any thoughts or feedback from the LinkedIn community! :)

When a client’s goals don’t quite align with my coaching approach, flexibility becomes the name of the game. I start by having an open conversation to understand their aspirations more deeply, finding common ground where my methods can support their unique path. Then, I tweak my techniques—maybe it’s adjusting the structure of sessions or focusing on different skill-building exercises—to better fit their needs. It’s all about meeting them where they are while keeping the focus on growth. Guiding them this way allows for progress that feels authentic to them, not forced. “Adapt to empower” is the motto here!

In a world that incentivises polarisation, it becomes easier to have goals that clash, even easier to stick to a personal opinion. As a coach a class is a call to ascend higher - to truly look at common ground and appreciate each others life journey. Take time to understand goals and motivations. Look for ways to work together and what benefits it brings for both to work together. Be willing to alter the package to suit the needs. Since I work extensively on rewiring mindset, it becomes necessary to go with the client's pace - meet them where they are. And if there is no common ground then be willing to refer the client to a coach who is more suitable.
