I have seen a lot of senior industry professionals struggling with Imposter Syndrome. I usua;yy help them connect the Dots between what they have done and what they want to do . Whilst going over what they have done, we go over what defines them and the impact they have created . We learn to talk in numbers of impact of their actions in a bigger picture conext during their entire career trajectory to create their USP . During this process they re-learn and remember what defines them and usually it works very well in a subtle manner to help with the imposter syndrome. Also I encourage them to OWN their story , be proud of it and share their true authentic selves out there . This also helps.

Before diving into solutions, I like to first understand why the client feels like an imposter in their career. Is it related to their current role, the company culture, or the industry itself? Once that’s clear, I’ll encourage them to focus on their unique strengths and transferable skills—qualities that show they truly belong. Building connections through networking and sharing their journey with others can also help them realize they’re not alone in these feelings and create a stronger sense of belonging.

Set Realistic Goals: Help them set achievable, short-term goals to build confidence through small, consistent successes. 3. Reframe Negative Thoughts: Work on recognising and replacing self-doubt with positive affirmations, focusing on growth over perfection. 4. Promote Skill Development: Suggest new skills or mentorships to deepen expertise, reinforcing confidence in their knowledge and abilities. 5. Foster a Support Network: Encourage them to connect with supportive colleagues and mentors who reinforce their sense of belonging. 6. Celebrate Progress: Remind them to celebrate all wins, big or small.

Helping them starts with guiding them to acknowledge their achievements and the unique value they bring to their role. I would encourage them to: Reflect on Past Successes: Remind them to revisit their journey—highlighting key milestones, challenges overcome, and feedback from peers or mentors. This helps them see that their success isn’t a stroke of luck but a result of hard work and capability. Encourage Self-Compassion: It’s important to allow oneself to grow and make mistakes.
