Propose a structured update schedule such as weekly reports or when significant progress is made. Highlight Mutual Benefits: Explain how setting boundaries will benefit both parties. If the client is anxious about staying informed, provide an alternative way for them to check progress without constant contact- a shared project management tool or a scheduled weekly call. If they continue to push for frequent updates, politely reinforce the boundaries. Reassure them that their project is a priority and will be handled with the utmost care.

When a client demands constant updates, I’d respond professionally: “I propose we set a weekly update schedule—perhaps Fridays—to keep you informed efficiently.” If they persist, I’d add, “Frequent interruptions can impact timelines and quality; let me cook, and you’ll get the best dish delivered on point.” Keeps it polished but with that!

This problem usually stems from not agreeing on the communication plan from the outset. All a client wants to know is that things are being worked on and if there are any red flags, they are told right away. If you outline the communication plan for that client at the beginning, whether it is once per day, Tuesday's and Thursday's, once per week, etc. (and right away if a red flag or emergency), your client won't be reaching out for updates all the time because they know when the update is coming. People just want structure and to know what to expect. Of course this falls on you to FOLLOW the plan yourself.
