To guide a person who avoids challenges: ? Start by building trust and framing challenges as learning opportunities rather than obstacles. ? Break challenges into manageable steps, helping them connect each step to their personal goals. ? Remind them of past successes to boost confidence. ? Normalize discomfort to reduce pressure, and encourage reflection after each step to highlight growth.

As someone in the wellness space, one thing that has helped me is effective listening. There are a lot of unrealized words trapped between what they say and what is the limitation they face. Most times, if you pay attention, you can help them understand the limitations that are holding them back from achieving their goals. We all have found ourselves stuck in these mentally created boxes that we don’t even realize. Listening can help you figure out where to help and eventually, how to go about that help.

I think you have to call it out - I've noticed and then understand what might be at the root of it. This will guide the next coaching steps. If a change of coaching approach is required then find a way to accommodate what is needed

Many years back one of my sage supervisors suggested "meet the Client, where he/she is". This advice beyond anything else has guided me over a decade and half and possibly the most helpful tip I ever received. For example referring to the topic of this post, if the client avoids challenges - the first step is to accept that he/she just avoids challenge. As always making the client aware of the observation will be the first step and then take things from there. The challenge that can be used in the coaching session is to discuss the client's avoiding challenge behavior.
