1 Identify the problem

The first step to getting your boss to support you is to understand why they are undermining you in the first place. Is it because they have unrealistic expectations, poor communication skills, or personal issues? Or is it because they feel threatened by your competence, creativity, or ambition? By identifying the root cause of their behavior, you can tailor your approach and avoid making assumptions or taking things personally.

In any case, do yourself a favour and not take things personally. Unrealistic expectations? Communicate and set expectations. Watch for reaction. If reasonable, then continue. Else, figure your flexibility with your boundaries. Else, start looking out! Personal issues? Then they are not professional. Move on. Threatened by your confidence, creativity? That's stupid. They should feel proud of themselves for having discovered such a gem. Dabble around a bit with underplaying yourself, at the same time, positioning yourself.

Being in L&D, the first response we should have is to try & understand the WHY. Then, try to have a conversation around your own expectations and what makes you uncomfortable. as @Paayal Varma has mentioned below - Watch for reaction, see if you want to continue An important thing to remember is that you are really the one that needs to know HOW to handle this situation... there are no guarantees that the next boss you get in the same org or another will be far better - coz you can rarely, if ever... pick your boss

Not everyone is open for difficult conversation or confrontation. So at your level try to observe 1. How does your boss prefer updates as in written, verbal, frequency of updates 2. How much authority does your boss like? As in marking in each email or just updating in the final decision. 3. Ask for feedback, and be ready to hear some criticism. Ask for incidents or explanations in case of vague feelings or emotions based feedback. 4. Sometimes you may have to take hard calls, if you are not growing in terms of learning/ skill upgrade/ exposure, look for other avenues.

For starters, communicate effectively set boundaries. Explain your them and if they don’t do what they can to correct it. Then remember that the job is replaceable, but your peace of mind, work life balance isn’t.Remember that there are far too many jobs available right now with the diminishing labor force. You can always find another job that will value you as a human being.

The only thing you can do is protect your mental health, continuue to deliver the best possible Job and documenta it. If the Boss undermines your work, he will NOT change ever, because he has a Problem with you, your personality. Start looking for a new Job and leave asap, before the Situation takes its toll on your health.
