You want to make your resume stand out in consulting. What's the best way to do it?

To distinguish your consulting resume, incorporate unique experiences that demonstrate versatility and adaptability. Highlight instances where you successfully navigated complex challenges or led innovative initiatives. Showcase your ability to work effectively in diverse teams and communicate complex ideas succinctly. Utilize visuals like graphs or infographics to illustrate achievements creatively. Moreover, convey your passion for continuous learning and professional growth through ongoing education or relevant extracurricular activities.

To stand out, be different from others. While others use the big and sophisticated vocabularies and format, embrace simplicity. Simplicity is the new normal. It is important for resumes to be in a simple, clear and concise format. Focus on quality rather than quantity. Just by skimming through you resume, I should be able to know the type of consultants you are, be specific with you can do.

To make your resume stand out in consulting, tailor it for each job, quantify achievements, highlight problem-solving skills, emphasize leadership and teamwork, showcase consulting-relevant experiences, use relevant keywords, maintain professional formatting, and proofread meticulously. By customizing your resume, showcasing impactful achievements with numbers, and emphasizing consulting-specific skills and experiences, you can attract the attention of recruiters and increase your chances of securing interviews in the competitive consulting field.

This is very important. If you are responding to an RFP, make sure that your resume describes your experience, qualifications, and responsibilities that align with the description of the role stated in the RFP. When you are sending resumes of your consulting team, you may also include an organization chart that will show the hierarchy and your position in the team. If you have sub consultants, group resumes by firms, with the prime consultant resumes first followed by sub consultants.

You don't have to recreate your resume every time. Your CV should highlight the skills that the specific organization needs you to possess. As a consultant, you have a clarified niche, and now, you must study the company to see what to highlight in your CV.

Whereas this may - in some cultures - be a good feature to have on your resume, it is not an appropriate field to have on a resume/Curriculum Vitae for a consultant. Someone seeking a consultant is typically looking for a specialist who can get a desired task done within a specialized time; they aren't looking for an employee. As such, sections that prioritize experience and hard qualifications trump softer resume elements such as 'extra curricular activities'. I would not include these on a Consultant resume.

Show your experience. That's important. Be aware of where you're really good at, and where your are not. When someone hires you, they expect you to help them on a field they need guidance. Be that guide.
