What are the most effective strategies for dealing with trolls during a live stream?

I generally just ignore them. They thrive on conflict. However if they get too out of hand I’ll address them. You don’t want to take too much away from the show by getting into it with them. Focus on your guest and audience and handle the trolls quietly and respectfully.

I strongly believe in not dignifying their trolling with a response. There is no use in allowing them to affect you and derail you from delivering value. But of course if there’s relevance to your subject and what you’re saying then by all means address it, use it as an example, and then promptly move on.

Social media is a place that is filled with multiple opinions and trolls ,are a part of it. It is better that we ignore these trolls because all the people leaving these negative reviews want to get their 5 minutes of fame. If we ignore them they will remain quite as well. But that doesn’t mean it is not affecting us. It does. However we need to keep ourselves strong to face all these. If these involve something about our performance, then we can take this in a positive light and improve ourselves.

Ignore them or simply state that they are welcome to leave if they do not want to contribute anything of value #killemwithkindness

I also believe that ignoring them is great strategy to handle trolls because the moment you begin to give them any form of attention, you begin to give them traction on your content. Ignoring them make it obvious that they are not relevant and leaves them in that place.

This is also another effective strategy, as you have the right to ban or block them where your content is concerned. When you notice a person consistently bringing toxicity to your content, you can ban or block them to prevent them from affecting your audience negatively.

For content creation, Trolling act as a Pit and a Ladder in my humble opinion. Right approach to deal with trolls during live stream would be to ignore, because they feed off attention. If they cross the line, beyond just crass fun and games, then Report and Block them but As a Content Creator, you may capitalize that online heckling to create more content. Reply to them; put them on spot, go on a tangent to address their trolling, you can also do the classic 'Creator reads Hate Comments' videos - Make Lemonade out of Lemons. Easy!!

Several solutions (depends on your audience size): - automatic ban based on "stop words" - manual mute/ban by you (don't recommend it) - manual mute/ban by your moderators. These moderators could be your loyal fans or team member. Blocking is effective method because trolls can ruin experience of other viewers -> less engagement -> less viewers -> less donations

Bannig users could affect negatively your reach. So its could be the last line of defense, the last case scenario, not the first step to create a safe space.

There are many creators who use the trolls to promote themselves. So facing it head on is a way to go. Trolls could become the content for the next reel or live stream. It all depends on how you perceive it and choose to use it. Using it to show your wit or expertise is definitely a strategy you can try out. But if you are someone who likes to keep things peaceful, then ignoring the trolls is the best way for your mental health.

Why would you want to engage with the trolls? Depends on the community. If you are a sarcastic bunch and like to have fun for others' sake, then enjoy trolling the trolls. Why not?

I think the best way is to detach from the outcome of your objective- there’s something to learn from and discard the rest- use it wisely as it should only fuel your growth in creating better content ??

Personally, I usually take proof of the trolling and communicate with the app management about it. Always works and serves them right.

A community that is empowered to love and and be loyal to you will end up fighting your battles, allowing you to focus on creating more quality content for them—which all the more justifies their love for you. However, you need to empower your community to choose their battles for you carefully, so as not to be tarnish your reputation. One such way of doing that is by giving them just the right information to clear the air, and not spill out falsehood (possibly against your competition). Because you're an authority, whatever information you provide to your audience sells farther and faster, and so you need to be careful what information you feed them.

You can engage with trolls but cant let have your community do the same: so i think a pro activness is necessary in this case, ie. speak out to your followers and tell them to ignore those trolls.

While I do not encourage dealing with trolls, I also caution anyone who wish and try to engage trolls. Finally, trolls exploit security vulnerabilities in digital platforms. Understanding their methods can highlight areas for technical improvement to prevent future attacks.

This is an oxymoron. "Not all negative comments are trolling" - that's true. But those people are not trolls, so no, you can't learn from trolls because trolls don't use constructive criticism (that's why they are trolls). You can learn from criticism. You can't learn from whatever trolls are spewing into your space because they don't have a message, they only want to disrupt.

Practice makes a master: if you engage a troll, and he/she/etc. is interacting with you, and be sure, the troll will, you can learn from much from it.

Sometimes negative comments could help you become a better content creator. But you need to be aware that most of the comments are just trash talks. They are not about you. They are not about your content. They are about trolls itself.

A fire needs oxygen or it dies. An argument can only continue for so long, when only one side is willing to engage. Chemically, when a person has a reaction to something in their environment, there's a 90 second process that happens in the body. If the recipient chooses not to engage and let that cycle out, it ends. However, if during it one engages them in anyway it resets the 90 seconds. So every interruption, every reply on a social media thread, starts that cycle again, and keeps fueling it. Keep this in mind when you’re dealing with people in person and on social media.

I like to use this approach - you can become a lightning rod for negative. In fact, you're helping the trolls feel better because they write negative comments to achieve relief. Probably, they have horrible and uninspiring life. This way of communication tells about desperate condition of their lives. Happy and full-filled people don't do trash and negative talks on purpose. Again, it's not about you and your content. These negative won't apply to you if you stick with this concept. That's what I learnt when I was 14 and started posting videos on YouTube - I got A LOT of negative comments.

You'll be amazed what valuable information you might find to grow your brand, while reducing the distraction on your live stream. Of course, you'll find many silly stuff, but search for the golden feedback.

I love to think of the people who are brilliant at dealing with trolls. The DJ for my wedding had a bad review on his page though it ultimately made that person look bad as it didn't reflect him at all. However, it's also the reason why I don't trust reviews. The same thing happened with the decorator for our bathroom. He received a bad review on Google which didn't reflect his excellent workmanship. In examples like these the 'trolls' could be competitors. Not always but sometimes.
